Finding a stainless steel water bottle with filter can be a challenge. There are really only a few on the market that filter, and even less if you want an insulated bottle.
We all know that we should be drinking more water, and there’s a lot of factors that influence our water-drinking habits. One of these is how our water tastes and smells. Chlorine is an essential addition to water to make it safe to drink, but sometimes it adds an overwhelming taste and odor.

Staying Hydrated On-the-Go
It’s essential to drink enough water to keep your body functioning correctly. The most prevalent liquid on earth helps your body produce saliva, flush out wastes (think urine), transport oxygen, build and maintain organs and tissues, regulate temperature (like sweating), and much more.
Getting enough water isn’t always easy, however. From merely forgetting to take a drink to consuming sugar-sweetened or caffeinated beverages instead, life sometimes gets in the way of drinking regular old water. An insulated bottle can help you drink more water throughout the day. The ability to carry cold (or hot) water with you to school, work, or while traveling may help you ditch the soft drinks and establish better hydration habits and routines. Your body will thank you for it!
Less Plastic Waste
We use a lot of plastic, and disposable bottles are just one of its forms. In 2017, we used 1 million disposable water and soft drink bottles every minute! That’s a shocking statistic, but here’s an even more horrible one: plastics are killing the oceans and its inhabitants. 100,000 aquatic mammals and turtles, as well as 1 million seabirds, die annually because of plastic pollution in the ocean. Animals get tangled up in stray garbage or even mistake it for food. Seabirds, such as the albatross, even feed plastic to their babies by mistake, killing them from the inside.
Humans use far too much plastic, and we’re incredibly irresponsible with their usage and disposal. We need to reduce our dependence on plastic. Many people have started switching to reusable water bottles (especially stainless steel bottles with filter) to reduce their consumption of plastics in their daily lives.
Better Tasting Water
Tap water is cheap, easy, and won’t fill up your recycling bin like disposable bottles will. However, sometimes, tap water doesn’t taste as refreshing as you’d like. Cities and municipalities treat their water supplies with chemicals like chlorine to make it clean and safe to drink (or in the case of fluoride, to improve public dental health). Unfortunately, chlorine can leave have a strong odor or taste. A strong chemical taste might make drinking more water a little tougher for some.
A filtering water bottle can help in situations like this. Replaceable bottle filters help reduce the amount of dissolved stuff in tap water, such as chlorine, as you drink it. Filtering out chlorine and other chemicals in tap water gives it a better smell and taste, which may help you and your family to drink more water throughout the day.
Reviews: Stainless Steel Water Bottle with Filter
Premium Filtering Water Bottle by Brita
Brita’s well known for their filtering water products, such as this stainless steel water bottle with filter. This leakproof bottle uses a double-walled vacuum seal to keep water cold for up to 24 hours.
The charcoal filter will keep your water tasting fresh, clean, and without the smell and taste of chlorine.
A replaceable filter inside the bottle’s inner straw makes the water in Brita bottles taste great. The filter captures chlorine (as well as other stuff dissolved in tap water), reducing the smell and taste of it in your drink. Purchase includes 1 filter, which lasts for 40 gallons (151 Litres) of water (lasts roughly 2 months with daily water drinking).
The inner straw and filter combo may take some time to get used to since it takes a bit of effort to drink from this bottle.
You can drink from this bottle single-handedly because of its push-button lid, and the carrying ring makes this bottle easy to carry.
Pros
- Charcoal filter
- Easy-open push button lid
- Several colors available
Cons
- Need to buy extra filters separately.
- Not intended for drinks other than water.
pH ACTIVE Insulated Water Bottle by Invigorated Water
This filtered water bottle by Invigorated Water is suitable for both hot (12 hours) and cold (24 hours) drinks.
In addition to the replaceable filter decreasing the taste and odor of chlorine, the filter removes heavy metals (think mercury and lead), adds minerals, and alkalinizes your drink.
The filter for this bottle doesn’t last very long. The filter’s only effective for 16 gallons (72 Litres) of water, which is less than half a Brita filter’s lifetime.
Pros
- Comes with 2 lid styles.
- Suitable for hot and cold beverages.
- Can be used with or without the filter.
- Available in multiple sizes.
Cons
- Expensive (think Hydro Flask or Yeti prices).
Stainless Steel Water Bottle Tumblers by BWM Venture
This tumbler is a little different since it has a strainer to infuse your cold and hot beverages instead of an actual filter.
Fill this tumbler’s strainer with fruit and herbs to take infused water to the beach, or steep loose-leaf tea on your way to work in the morning. The wide-mouth opening gives you space to insert loose leaf teas, fruit, or herbs into the infuser. The opening is also large enough to slip a couple of ice cubes into your drink.
This tumbler won’t lessen the smell and taste of chlorine in your water, but it’ll still make plain water taste even better than before in a variety of other ways.
Pros
- Purchase includes 2 tumblers.
- Suitable for both hot and cold drinks.
- Easy-grip silicone covering.
Cons
- Won’t reduce the taste and odor of chlorine.
- The strainer is on the small side.
Our Favourite
Out of the insulated stainless steel water bottles we reviewed, our favorite is the Brita. It’s easy to replace the filter, makes your water taste great, and is relatively affordable for what you get.
We like this bottle because its filter is effective at reducing the smell and taste of chlorine in tap water. The Invigorated Water bottle filters out chlorine as well, but their filter only lasts about half the time of Brita’s.
When you do need to replace your filter finding a filter for the Brita won’t be a big deal. Most brick-and-mortar stores carry Brita products, and they’re also more affordable.
However, if you’re looking for an insulated bottle to hold your hot drinks or make infused water, then we recommend BWM’s Venture tumbler. Though it doesn’t filter out chlorine and other chemicals, it’s a nice tumbler if your tap water doesn’t have a strong smell or taste.
Whichever filtering bottle you decide to buy, we hope it’ll help you get into the habit of drinking more water wherever you go!
